Honest Breast Pump Review

By: Katie Skene

When it comes to pumping, the world of breast pumps can be overwhelming, the hands free, the manual pumps, the electric pump... We reached out to one of our mama friends who had a tough time when her milk came in and tried a few different brands. Straight from Mama's mouth, here is her honest review of three different pumps. As a first time mum I was unaware you can have a difficult time when your milk comes in, I’m talking fever, shakes and other flu like symptoms. The midwives told me I could combat it by pumping, so it was a nasty shock when I realised the pump I had didn’t fit me, rendering it useless! Luckily I had mama friends to call on... and Amazon prime! Here’s my run down of the pumps I tested in this trying time.

Lansinoh 2 in 1 electric breast pump

  • Comes with medium and large flanges but unfortunately I struggled to find smaller sized ones

  • The attachments on the pump come in a lot of different pieces to assemble each time after cleaning

  • not as practical as competitors

  • Louder than other pumps and more so when in higher suction modes

  • Good option if you’re looking for a double pump on a budget

Tommy tippee closer to nature electric breast pump

  • Super easy to use and comfortable thanks to the silicone flanges

  • Compact and can run off mains or batteries

  • Takes time to assemble bottle attachments each time

  • No range of flange sizes, so may be less efficient expression

Medela Freestyle Flex 2-Phase Double Electric Breast Pump -

  • Super compact

  • Incredibly efficient modes (more expressed milk in shorter time vs competitor pumps)

  • Very easy touch interface

  • Bottle attachments in 2 pieces only, so easy to clean and quick to assemble - Very quiet

  • Best range of flange sizes

  • Double pump

  • High price point
